Energy from Waste Conference 2025

The Energy from Waste conference in London united industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers to explore the latest advancements and challenges in waste management and energy recovery. Our Lead Consultant, Andrea Jordan, attended to share her expertise, presenting on carbon capture and storage (CCS) and advanced treatment technologies.

Andrea’s session on early CCS developments explored the challenges, outcomes, and lessons from pioneering projects. The session covered the importance of feasibility studies and the integration of CCS into existing infrastructure. It also highlighted the potential of CCS in reducing emissions and supporting net-zero targets, emphasising the need for supportive policies to encourage further development.

Andrea also participated in a panel discussion focused on advanced treatment technologies, specifically syngas development and its output to hydrocarbons. The panel explored the potential of converting waste-derived syngas into valuable fuels and chemicals.

Beyond Fichtner’s contributions, the conference covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Innovative Waste Sorting Technologies: Presentations showcased advancements in AI-powered sorting systems capable of achieving higher purity rates and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.
  • Policy Updates: Discussions centered on new regulations and incentives aimed at promoting circular economy principles and encouraging the adoption of EfW technologies.
  • Financing and Investment Trends: Experts explored emerging financing models and investment opportunities in the EfW sector, including green bonds and public-private partnerships.
  • Public Engagement and Education: Strategies for improving public perception of EfW facilities and promoting community involvement were also discussed.

The overall atmosphere of the conference was optimistic, with a strong sense of collaboration and a shared commitment to advancing sustainable waste management practices. Attendees were eager to learn about the latest innovations and explore opportunities for partnership and collaboration.
