This position is based with Fichtner Consulting Engineers Ltd in the UK, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Germany‑based Fichtner Group.
Fichtner UK provides independent engineering and technical advisory services across the UK and Ireland, supporting energy and infrastructure projects throughout their lifecycle. With over 30 years of experience in the region, our teams contribute to a wide range of conventional and renewable energy projects and play an active role in advancing the energy transition.
What we are looking for:
- A good chemical or mechanical engineering degree
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent
- Solid experience post degree with direct involvement in the technical consultancy sector
- Experience gained from any area of renewable or thermal power generation or development, waste management operations or process plant management
- Proven experience with the multi-disciplinary delivery of small to very large projects, including budget management and delivery programs
- Some experience of carrying out technical due diligence on behalf of investors and/or vendors and/or public authorities. (desirable)
- Knowledge of legislative and regulatory frameworks for waste or renewable asset projects
- Good experience of construction projects and technical contract drafting
- Excellent communication skills, with experience of communicating effectively with both engineering and non-engineering professional audiences
- Full driving licence
- Competent computing skills using MS office suite

- NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma
- A certified member of IOSH, working towards Chartered membership
- ISO45001 Lead Auditor certified with practical construction-based audit experience
- 3-day First Aid Certification; A recognised wellbeing certification
- Have good working knowledge of UK OH&S regulations and guidance
- An excellent understanding of current health, safety and welfare issues
- Excellent working knowledge of either power generation, process or renewable energy sectors and the dynamic nature of risk and its management
- Proven track record of operating in and continually updating a positive health and safety culture
- Support on health and safety for our offices in England, Scotland, and Ireland
- Promote health and safety services to our client base, in conjunction with the Business Development team
- Up to date working knowledge of the CDM 2015 Regulations (including Principal Contractor role)

What we are looking for:
- A good degree in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent field)
- Ideally a Chartered Engineer
- Experience gained from an OEM, EPC, process manufacturing or engineering consultancy environment
- Extensive experience of working in one or more of the following industries, e.g., oil and gas, industrial gases, or chemicals
- Experience with process plant concept design development, pre-FEED and FEED studies, and detailed process plant system design
- A good working knowledge of one or more of the following technologies:
- CO2 capture and storage
- Oil or gas refining; or
- Cryogenic energy storage processes
- Prior experience of process simulation using HYSYS, Aspen Plus, OGT Protreat or similar
- Detailed working knowledge of industrial process components such as pumps, valves, fans, packed columns, pipework, compressors, heat exchangers, tanks, pressure vessels and instruments etc.
- Knowledge of applicable standards and best industry practice for equipment and material selection for amin and hydrogen applications
- Ability to prepare and review typical process plant documentation, i.e., heat & mass balances, PFDs, P&IDs, basis of design documents, process calculations, functional descriptions, data sheets and cause/effect charts
- Good understanding of the principles of process plant layout with a working knowledge of pipework routing and arrangement
- Working knowledge of quality control systems applicable to process plant design, manufacturing, and construction
- Good understanding of process safety principles
- Prepare job plans, write client proposal documents, estimate manhour requirements, and fee estimates
- Have full right to work in the UK
- The ability and willingness to travel both in the UK and occasionally overseas

- Project management software including Primavera P6
- Probability analysis e.g. Monte Carlo and Primavera risk analysis
- Best practises for assessing, recording, and reporting progress including leading and lagging KPI’s
- Critical path and delay analysis techniques
- Awareness of claims management and standard forms of contracts
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent people and communication skills
- Competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power BI
- A current driving licence for occasional travel to project sites in the UK and Ireland
