Who are we?
Fichtner is global engineering consultancy established in 1922 with over 2000 employees over 170 countries. Within the UK and Ireland our engineers and consultants are involved in some of the most innovative energy projects across the UK providing design, intellectual, and engineering services to developers, investors, owners, and operators. Projects in development, construction, or operation in the UK and Ireland, include more than:
- 60 major thermal power plants, across the waste, biomass, and conventional power sectors
- 10 GWh of battery storage
- 5 GW of solar
- 7 GW of on-shore and off-shore wind
- 5 GWh of pumped storage hydro projects
- 20 carbon capture projects, aiming to capture and permanently sequestrate more than 5 million tonnes of CO2 per annum
We have over 175 employees that we are proud to have represent us, operating from our offices in Manchester, Belfast, Dublin, and Glasgow. As the business grows from strength to strength, we are now looking to further extend our team by recruiting a small number of postgraduate engineers (to graduate in academic year 2025/26), to be based in our Stockport office from September 2026 onwards.
Successful applicants will be trained in a structured development programme, on the job, by recognised engineering leaders from within our industry. Chartered status routes are supported, and we have several accredited schemes with engineering professional bodies.
You will learn about the different aspects of project development, construction, commissioning and operations. You will liaise directly with our clients who are contractors, bankers, investors, plant operators, or equipment suppliers, as necessary.
What we are looking for:
- A minimum of a 2.1 integrated master’s degree in mechanical, chemical or aerospace engineering
- Excellent grades at A-Level (or IB equivalent) in mathematics plus one science subject
- Very effective communication skills
- An outgoing, tenacious, and curious personality with an interest in renewable or thermal power generation technologies.
- Prior experience with Microsoft 365 and particularly advanced Excel skills
- Excellent command of written English (report writing skills)
- Some understanding of health and safety at work
- The ability to evaluate, explain and simplify technical issues to non-technical personnel/clients
- Clean full driving licence
- Able to work in the UK without any visa restriction
- Can travel both in the UK and occasionally overseas
