Brigg, 40 MWe, and Snetterton, 44 MWe, are based in Lincolnshire and Norfolk respectively. The two plants each comprise a combustion facility primarily fired by baled wheat straw, with the capability to burn a minority blend of alternate fuels including wood chip and miscanthus. The plants use proven conventional combustion technology, each featuring a vibrating grate, steam turbine and air cooled condensers.

During project development we provided full technical due diligence to the investors. Our key roles during construction, commissioning and hand-over included;

• CDM Advisory;
• Environmental Permit Management.

Fichtner has had an active role in all of the UK’s major straw fired power plants. The Brigg and Snetterton projects have followed on from the Ely and Sleaford projects, with each successive plant claiming the honour of being the world’s largest straw fired power station.
