As part of a wider portfolio acquisition review, including biomass assets, Fichtner undertook detailed technical due diligence for two wind farms owned and operated by Yorkshire Wind Power Ltd, a joint venture between Energy Power Resources Limited and E.ON.

The due diligence focused primarily on;

  • the repowering of Ovenden Moor Wind Farm;
  • programme review;
  • traffic and access issues;
  • geotechnical review;
  • civil and turbine design;
  • construction contracts;
  • proposed O&M and site management, and;
  • wind energy yield assessment.

Ovenden Moor Wind Farm has been generating since June 1993, having been built on Yorkshire Water land at Hollin Hill, near Warley Moor reservoir. The current turbines at Ovenden have been supplying renewable power for over 18 years and the repowered scheme will replace the existing turbines with 9 Gamesa G8- turbines.

Royd Moor Wind Farm has featured in a crime thriller by an award-winning novelist. Following a visit to the site, Stephen Booth, who was the Barry Award winner for the best crime novel of 2001, decided it was exactly what he had in mind for a wind farm that will feature in his latest thriller, set in the Peak district.
