The West of Duddon Sands Wind Farm consists of 108 Siemens 3.6MW wind turbine generators and is located in the East Irish Sea, approximately 14km from the nearest coast on Walney Island, Cumbria. The transmission assets include an onshore substation, offshore substation platform, two export cables and an OFTO dedicated supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.
Fichtner provided technical due diligence to support Ofgem’s own analysis and assessment on the costs associated with developing and constructing the West of Duddon Sands Transmission Assets.
The Fichtner team undertook an independent assessment including;
- the export cable supply and installation costs;
- cost analysis;
- review of the procurement process;
- contract strategy and management of risk;
- design philosophy and;
- the offshore transmission asset
During the years 2012 to 2014, a joint venture between Scottish Power Renewables and DONG Energy constructed the West of Duddon Sands Offshore Wind Farm. The wind farm was inaugurated by the Secretary for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Davey on 30th October, 2014.
