Wren Kitchens is one of the UK’s leading kitchen retailers with sites in Scunthorpe, Howden, Hull, and headquarters in Barton-upon-Humber. As part of the company’s expansion, Wren planned a £120 million investment to build a new manufacturing facility at the existing 180-acre Barton site.
Fichtner was engaged by legal specialists, Walton & Co, to provide environmental services to support the planning application for the new 910,000 sq. ft factory. Our environmental team provided an air quality review and assessment that included:
- Stack height assessment
- Process modelling
- Traffic modelling
Planning permission was successfully achieved within 13 weeks of submission, allowing construction to go ahead with the potential of creating up to 1,200 jobs to benefit the local economy once completed. Following the success of this project, Fichtner was further engaged to provide an air quality assessment to support the planning permission of a storage and distribution centre at the Scunthorpe site, including a review of legislation and planning, and an assessment of vehicle emissions for the facility’s operational stage. The Scunthorpe centre successfully opened in 2021, and the manufacturing expansion in Barton is expected to reach completion in the summer of 2022.
