Fichtner acted as Owner’s Engineer, during the construction and commissioning of the Tully biogas plant located in Ballymena, Northern Ireland.
The plant was designed to process 40,000 tonnes/year of poultry litter and produce 3 MW of renewable electricity . The plant is the world’s first AD plant processing 100% poultry litter, made possible by the application of ammonia stripping technology from Byosis. The biogas produced by the plant is fed into two 1.5MW gas engines that generate electricity on site which is then sold to the National Grid.
The developer, Stream Bio Energy Ltd, has secured planning permission to extend the plant to increase throughput to 200,000 tonnes/year and produce up to 15 MW of electricity.
